BudgetWise ("we", "our", "us") is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your data when you use our application.

We collect the following information when you use BudgetWise:

Account information: Name, email address, and password (or Google sign-in credentials)
Financial data: Income, expenses, savings goals, and budget categories that you manually enter
Bank data (if connected): Account balances and transaction history from linked bank accounts via third-party providers (Plaid, Salt Edge)
Device information: Browser type, device type, and operating system for app functionality
Usage data: Features used and pages visited within the app

2. How We Use Your Information

To provide and maintain the BudgetWise service
To display your financial data, charts, and insights
To send budget alerts and notifications (with your permission)
To process subscription payments via Stripe
To improve the app and fix bugs

3. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored securely on Supabase servers with encryption at rest and in transit. We use industry-standard security measures including:

SSL/TLS encryption for all data transmission
Row-level security on database tables
Secure authentication via Supabase Auth
We never store your bank login credentials

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

Supabase: Database and authentication
Stripe: Payment processing (we never see your full card number)
Plaid / Salt Edge: Bank account linking (they handle bank credentials directly)
Google: OAuth sign-in (optional)

Each third-party service has its own privacy policy and security standards.

5. Data Sharing

We do NOT sell, rent, or share your personal or financial data with any third parties for marketing purposes. Your data is only shared with the third-party services listed above as necessary to provide the BudgetWise service.

6. Your Rights (POPIA Compliance)

Under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and other applicable data protection laws, you have the right to:

Access your personal data
Correct inaccurate data
Delete your account and all associated data
Export your data
Withdraw consent for notifications at any time
Object to processing of your personal information

7. Cookies & Local Storage

BudgetWise uses browser local storage to save your preferences (theme, currency, account mode). We do not use tracking cookies or third-party analytics trackers.

8. Children's Privacy

BudgetWise is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. Family mode features are managed by the parent/guardian account holder.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of BudgetWise after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
